Food fight! Two female bears unleash hell on one another as they battle over a salmon

Two fierce female brown bears have been captured locking jaws with one another as they fight over fish while hunting in Russian lake.   

Business consultant Giuseppe D’amico, 60, was visiting Kurile Lake in Kamchatka when he heard the enormous bears making ‘great noise’ while fighting one another.

D’amico, from Abruzzo, Italy, said it is rare to see bears fighting over salmon in the lake as it is known for having an abundance of fish.  

‘My favourite shots are those where I managed to capture the bears’ facial expressions as they fight more in detail,’ he said. 

‘The photos were taken from about 100ft away and you could feel the strength of these powerful mammals. It is a privilege to witness these wild events of nature.’ 

The struggle lasted only about 20 seconds before it ended suddenly without consequence, and the two bears went back to fishing.

Kurile Lake is a major nursery for salmon and one of the largest stocks of this species in Asia. The total number of fish in the lake can reach over 6 million

Adult brown bears live alone, but gather around dependable food sources. In 1998, Kurile Lake had the highest density of brown bears of Kamchatka, and possibly all of Russia
