Travelers worried about Dominican Republic trips after tourist deaths: study

The series of tourist deaths that have come out of the Dominican Republic has raised concerns among travelers, according to a new study.

A survey conducted by Consumer Reports found that 78 percent of respondents were concerned about US tourists dying in the embattled destination, according to Travel Weekly.

Of those concerned, 59 percent said that they would purchase travel insurance should they head to the Caribbean island.

The study revealed that only 2 percent of the 650 participants had booked trips to the country — but that 82 percent made arrangements to travel to other close destinations stateside, in Canada or Mexico.

The survey’s results were released as the State Department confirmed this week that a Georgia man died on vacation in the island nation.

Tracy Jerome Jester Jr., 31, died of “respiratory issues” on March 17 following a day of sightseeing, ABC News reported.
