Torrent of water sweeps woman through shopping centre as typhoon destroys roof
A woman was swept through a shopping centre by a huge torrent of rainwater during a typhoon in China at the weekend.
Dramatic footage shows the woman being swept along the corridor on the second floor while others run to nearby stores for cover.
A water smashed shop windows in the centre of the mall.
The incident took place at Huixing shopping centre in Shilong town of Dongguan, southeastern China, at 5:40pm on Saturday.
It appeared torrential rain had gathered during Typhoon Bailu before ripping open the canvas roof.
The torrent sent the shopper sliding several dozen feet along the corridor.
Two other shoppers were also left soaked from head to toe.
The wave fell through the shopping centre’s atrium before landing on the first floor.
Mr Lin, a spokesperson for the Shilong government office, confirmed two shoppers suffered minor injuries.
He told New Beijing Post: "The incident is thought to have been a result of the waterlogged canvas breaking under the strain of constant downpour and the pooling of rainwater on the roof.
"It came crashing down in the centre of the mall. Some of the railings were damaged by the force.
"Two injured shoppers were sent to Dongguan No.3 People's Hospital where they were treated with minor injuries."
