Topless XR member hits out at Piers Morgan after he jokes she’s promoting book

A topless Extinction Rebellion protester has responded to Piers Morgan after he cheekily suggested she was promoting his new book.

Laura Amherst, 31,has been snapped topless outside Downing Street, Oxford Circus and the City of Londonin recent weeks.

During one march, she was seen carrying a banner with "Wake Up" emblazoned across her chest – the title of Morgan’s 2020 book.

He afterwards tweeted: “Great to see some unexpected publicity for my book at today’s Extinction Rebellion protest.”

Ms Amherst responded on Instagram: “Think we’re on a bit of a different track lad.

“Just ever so slightly…. @piersmorgan but I have a question, do you support extinction rebellion?”

The former Good Morning Britain host has yet to reply.

Ms Amherst, who lives in Brighton and is studying at the Open University, is a passionate member of XR along with her boyfriend.

She has previously vowed to go on a “boob world tour” in order to spread her message across the world.

The politics student joined thousands of other campaigners last week for the Impossible Rebellion protests.

She held a cardboard sign reading "Citizens Assembly on Climate Change, demanding an end to fossil fuel funding.

Ms Amherst initially drew attention after dancing topless in Oxford Circus a couple of weeks ago.

She was dancing for around six hours, and vowed to stay topless whatever the weather.

Ms Amherst told the MailOnline: “I started on Monday, so this is the third day of me going topless.

“Regardless of if it's sunny, cold or wet I will continue taking my top off.

“I have had a very positive reaction from both men and women.

“Only one man was negative, but he was a bit of weirdo who was trying to get my number. Apart from that, I've not had any problems.”

Trolls have previously lashed out at the campaigner online, and accused her of seeking attention.

Ms Amherst recently shared a picture of a child on her Instagram, and said she has “someone I’m fighting for”.

She wrote: “Their life means more to me than my own does. Screw all of you that thinks this is a shallow publicity stunt or money making scheme.

“You have no idea of what my heart truly is and the sacrifices I have had to make, and the traumas I have been through.”
