The search for Weltzin Garcia has ended in tragedy.

The body of the missing 26-year-old mother was found last week in a Texas lake, ending a two-month mystery.

Authorities had been searching for Garcia since February 5, when she and her estranged boyfriend, Alfonso Hernandez, were reported missing.

A body pulled from Dallas’ White Rock Lake in late February was identified as belonging to Hernandez, 28.

Police confirm to PEOPLE Garcia’s remains were found in Mountain Creek Lake by a kayaker.

The lake is situated just outside her hometown of Grand Prairie, Texas.

The couple is survived by their two children, ages 3 and 6, who are now in the custody of her twin sister, Atziry Garcia Mireles.

Before they disappeared, Hernandez sent a text message to his family, that simply read, “Goodbye,” according to police.

Authorities found Hernandez’s car at the lake soon after the pair were reported missing.

A police spokesman previously told PEOPLE Hernandez’s phone was found in the car. Garcia’s phone was recovered from Hernandez’s pants pocket, according to investigators.

Police have yet to reveal how the couple died.

Garcia vanished a week after a judge granted her request for a protective order against Hernandez.

Police were on the lookout for Hernandez, who had an active arrest warrant for domestic violence.

Mireles told NBC 5 in February the youngest of the couple’s two children believes that she is his mother.

“He’s thinking I’m his mom, but he’s little, you know,” she said. “He’s calling me mommy every time so it’s like very emotional for me, but I’m not gonna break down because I need to be strong for them and they need to know that everything is going to be okay.”
