He was left with two gaping wounds in his foot. Logan needed 19 stitches. According to the Daily Mirror, he said: “I was coming in and he bit my foot and then he bit it again.

“It was probably a 2-foot shark.”

The attack happened at around 4.30pm in the afternoon.

Mother Jennifer Radd rushed Logan to hospital.

She told Florida Today: “He just told me, ‘mommy, don’t cry’.”

It was the first shark bite of the year on the beach.

Logan had been surfing at the time.

Ms Radd said: “He was so brave, just telling me he was going to be OK.

“The bites looked pretty gnarly and got him 19 stitches.

“He wasn’t in pain until about 2:30 a.m.”

She added “It’s just the worst thing a mother could go through.”

Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard chief Eisen Witcher said: “From our standpoint, we have not had any shark-related incidents in the guarded areas.”

“It’s been pretty quiet.”

NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre is within the county.

Cape Canaveral as a city is also within its boundaries.

According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF) most shark attacks are considered to be unprovoked.

The shores of the US are the most common areas for these attacks.

ISA have recored 1,441 shark attacks since records began.

Shark attacks have been the plot behind several Hollywood films.

These include Jaws and Sharknado.
