Terrified Brit tourists were seen fleeing to shore after a shark was spotted stalking in the shallow waters at a holiday hotspot.

Horrifying footage shows the beast's fin poking above the water at Torremolinos beach in Malaga, Spain, on June 27.

Crowds of holidaymakers were seen swimming back to shore in footage shared online as their beach day out was cut short.

Emily McEwan was one of those at the beach when the shark was spotted. She posted the chilling clip to TikTok.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: "It was a little bit of a surprise because we’ve all seen films like Jaws but you never really expect yourself to be in the sea when you see that fin.

"We were just on a family holiday for a few days in Malaga after I had my baby boy.

"A crowd started to gather on the beach whilst we were in the sea and I thought ‘I don’t like that, I don’t like that’, because whenever a crowd gathers on the beach it usually means something is wrong.

"And then to my right I saw a tail fin. That’s when a lifeguard came out and he sort of went up and down for quite a while."

The shark lurked close to the beach for around half an hour before the lifeguard managed to coax it away, she said.

Emily added that staff at the beach bar attempted to calm tourists down by assuring them it was just a turtle, but the fin made it quite clear what was really out there.

Luckily, the shark didn't appear to be interested in beachgoers and nobody was harmed.

It marked the fifth shark sighting off the Spanish coast in just one month – with scientists unsure as to what could be drawing them to the region.

The caption on her post read: "Off to the beach for what was meant to be a nice relaxing day."

One person commented: "Oh dear I go here in August." Another said: "I ain’t going in the sea I’m sorry."
