Terminally ill Liverpool fan defies doctors to take camper van to Champions League final
Will Owens, 60, is determined to see his beloved Reds one last time in Saturday’s final against Tottenham.
Mr Owens, who is also a Hillsborough survivor, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in December last year.
He has been confined to his home since then as the illness spread to other parts of the body.
A life-long Liverpool fan from Huyton, Mr Owens has travelled across the globe to watch the Reds with his long-suffering wife, Gillian.
After Liverpool dispatched Barcelona in the semi-final with an impressive 4-0 win at Anfield, Owens leaped out of his hospital bed in sheer delight, Liverpool Echo reports.
“My dad wouldn’t take no for an answer, he said he was going to Madrid no matter what”

He then declared that he would go and see Jurgen Klopp’s men in action one last time.
Mr Owens used to take his nephew Craig with him to games at Anfield and the favour is now being repaid.
His daughter Lindsey told Liverpool Echo: “My dad wouldn’t take no for an answer, he said he was going to Madrid no matter what.
“The doctors advised him not to go and he couldn’t fly, so him and Craig have gone in a camper van, so he can lie down most of the way.
“He has no insurance and they’ve taken a wheelchair with them to help him get around – but he’s having the time of his life.”
Lindsey continued: “His friends said they’d sort him a ticket, but the promised ticket hasn’t yet arrived – but there’s still time left.
”Whatever happens he’s having the time of his life.
“He came out of hospital last week, with the doctors warning us he could be close to the end, but this game has just revived him, and he is having the best time in Madrid.
“I just hope they win now.”
Tommorrow night’s final takes place at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and is the first all-English clash in the Champions League since 2008 when Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties.
The game kicks off at 8pm BST with exclusive coverage on BT Sport 2.
Liverpool enter the final as favourites, with bookmaker Paddy Power offering 5/6.
