Ten Publishing abandons print magazines for car lovers — except these three

Car enthusiasts won’t like this news.

Ten Publishing said on Dec. 6 that it is abandoning print for 19 of the 22 automotive titles it publishes under a licensing deal with cable giant Discovery.

Only Motor Trend, Four Wheeler and Hot Rod will continue to appear in print next year. Automobile, Car Craft and 17 other titles will appear only digitally.

News of the print shut down was first reported by Folio.

As part of the moves, Alex Wellen, who is president of the MotorTrend Group for Discovery said the company is looking for voluntary resignations with sweetened severance packages. “It is a one-time window and is entirely voluntary,” he said in a memo to staffers.

Subscribers for the 19 shut-down print magazines will be able to get credit to receive the three surviving magazines — or can get a subscription to MotorTrend video streaming service, he said.
