A teenager was left feeling sick after she found a moth inside her McDonald’s garlic mayo chicken wrap which she ordered from UberEats.

Diann, 17, and her mother, Carlie, 45, ordered the takeaway from the McDonald’s Jarman Park restaurant in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, which has a food hygiene rating of five.

Photos show the unidentified creature on the outside of the wrap with what appears to be a set of wings.

It had originally been inside the tortilla when Diann spotted it and picked it out to show her mother, who said her daughter was lucky not to have eaten it.

Diann said: ‘I had like one or two bites, but I like to look at my food before I eat it, so that’s when I noticed it, and I was like ‘what the hell?’

‘So I pulled it out and put it on the wrap to show my mum.

‘At first I thought it was like some sort of cricket, but when I looked closer it looked like it had wings, so it must have been some sort of moth or fly.

‘I actually felt sick.’

The 45-year-old, who is a vegetarian, added: ‘You can actually see – it looks like a moth, and the moth has actually been toasted with my daughter’s wrap.

‘Thank god she dissects her food before she eats. If it was me, I’d have eaten it and not even seen it.

‘I didn’t actually know what it was. It was so cremated I was like ‘what is that?’

‘She said it was inside the wrap, and she pulled it out and put it on the outside to bring it down to show me.’

Carlie said: ‘It just makes you think, how many bugs have we eaten?

‘I had just eaten my food and didn’t think anything of it, she’s then come down and showed me that and I’m thinking ‘oh my god!

‘And I’m vegetarian so I really don’t want to be eating insects.’

A McDonald’s spokesperson said the branch in question had received a food hygiene rating of five in their inspection two months ago.

They said: ‘Food quality is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards to avoid any imperfections.

‘We apologise to this customer for their experience and understand they are currently in conversation with our customer services team to help find a resolution.’

UberEats, who refunded the meal, have been contacted for comment.
