Teen ‘strangled baby to death with umbilical cord and made brother, 14, bury it’

A teenage girl allegedly strangled her newborn baby to death with its umbilical cord and then made her brother bury the infant.

The shocking incident happened in the southern Turkish province of Gaziantep in 2013.

However, the case has come to light after her brother went to the authorities after being unable to live with the guilt any longer.

The woman allegedly killed the infant moments after giving birth and then forced her brother, who was 14 at the time, to get rid of the body.

According to reports, the mother, known as Fatma B., became pregnant following a tryst with her textile factory boss.

She was 16 at the time and allegedly strangled the newborn with the umbilical cord after giving birth at home.

She then kept the body in a fridge for three days.

Fatma B. then reportedly asked her brother Mehmet A. to bury the baby's body in the basement of their home.

After guilt-ridden Mehmet A. recently reported the crime, the police launched an investigation and obtained a warrant to search the house.

Mehmet A. showed them where the baby was buried in the basement and officers dug up the remains, according to local media.

The local authorities then arrested Mehmet A. and his sister, who had married three years ago and was living in a different part of Turkey.

The investigation continues.
