The Air India flight from Kolkata to Agartala in north-eastern India was delayed by almost four hours after a swarm of bees landed on the cockpit window.

The swarm landed on the window just before the plane was due to leave Kolkata on Sunday with 136 passengers, including Bangladesh’s information minister.

The passengers were lucky to be stuck inside the plane while the swarm of bees went on the attack.

Ground staff tried to shoo the insects off the cockpit window which is said to have angered the bees.

They also attempted to use the windscreen wipers of the plane to try and get them off, which also failed. They instead blasted the bees away with water.

An airport official said: “Fire tenders were deployed to spray water to dislodge the honey bees and they could be driven away after nearly an hour-long operation’.

The flight eventually took off more than three and a half hours late.
