Suspect held on $1M bond in Jefferson County on alleged sex assaults of 4 victims

A man has been charged with 18 felony counts in Jefferson County for allegedly sexually assaulting four women in the foothills after driving victims there in separate incidents over the past six months, prosecutors said.

Joseph Gabriel Van Eck, 32, has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, kidnapping, second-degree assault and menacing, according to the district attorney’s office.

On April 19, a woman reported to Jefferson County deputies that she’d been picked up by a driver in Denver, driven to the foothills and sexually assaulted.

Three other women have reported similar incidents in August and September, a news release said. Two women were picked up in Denver and two along West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood.

Van Eck was arrested on Sept. 18 and he is being held on a $1 million bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Oct. 21.
