Stray dogs try to take on family of otters in ‘wild-West battle’ before fleeing

A trio of stray dogs were spotted fleeing the scene after failing to take on a family of otters on a canal.

The hilarious moment happened in Yew Tree on the island city-state of Singapore and the footage was shared on Facebook on Sunday, November 29.

The beginning of the video shows a family of six otters running towards the water in unison before their four-legged enemies appear in front of them at a vacant section of canal.

At least three black stray dogs are seen running towards them in an opposite direction and both groups stop in the middle for a fierce stare-off.

The brave otters appear to take a step back and retreat to the water, but soon re-group to take over the land and chase off the dogs.

The canines are seen running away with their tails between their legs after apparently claiming the turf.

According to reports, the animals did not come to blows and they were unharmed in the incident.

Local residents said the dogs had been roaming that area of the canal for a while so the otters’ presence may have been a successful offensive "land grab".

Viewers compared the scene to a classic Wild West-style battle.

One said: "Just like an old Western movie. Both trying to claim the territory. Brilliant!"

Another narrated the scene: "The dogs saw the otters they charge at high speed, upon seeing the dogs the otters ran over to meet but the dog turn back and retreat at speed."

A third said: "Stand off was so cute between especially the otters."
