Spurs fans left stranded at Stansted Airport after bird hits plane

Hundreds of fans were left waiting at the airport for six-and-a-half hours after the Thomas Cook delay.

They are travelling to Madrid for the Champions League final.

They are currently on a flight that the airline claimed will land in Madrid an hour-and-a-half before kick-off, leaving at 4.30pm and arriving at 7.30pm local time.

However, they were apparently still waiting to board the plane by 5.20pm leaving them little time to get to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium for the 9pm local time kick-off, reports The Sun.

Following the “bird strike”, Thomas Cook said the jet was deemed “not safe to operate”.

“So far 5 hour delay, waiting for ‘replacement’ plane from Manchester. Shocking communication, and customer service.”

He later added: “Latest, the ‘Stansted Airport 190’ are now sitting on an actual plane after a 6.5 hour omnishambles.”

The game will kick off at 8pm UK time.

Liverpool are the favourites, although Spurs will fancy their chances as underdogs.
