Snow maps show when flurries will fall this week for Brits in -3C icy plunge

January may be dead and gone but if new forecasts from weather experts are to be believed Winter isn't over yet.

As bookies slash odds on this February being the coldest on record new weather charts have shown the areas of the UK that will see snowfall as early as this week.

According to WX Charts, the first signs of snow this week will fall in Northern Scotland near Inverness on February 3 at around 6pm.

Parts of Northern Ireland will also see a smattering of the white stuff as temperatures plunge to around -3C.

By the next morning at 6am, the snow will have moved south into northwest England hitting places like Carlisle.

Even if your area isn't set to be hit by the snow it looks like a fairly gloomy week ahead for the country according to the Met Office.

The forecaster predicts that the northeast will see showers and winds tonight before the rain moves down the country.

The rest of the week will see patchy rain intermingling with persistent clouds and temperatures middling at around 11C.

Over the course of next week, the Met Office finally has some positive news.

A forecaster said the following from February 5: "Scattered showers across the northwest and down parts of the east coast will die away towards the start of this period.

"Elsewhere is expected to be dry and partly cloudy, with cloud increasing across the northwest throughout Saturday, this bringing rain later. It will be windy with gales around northern coasts, but lighter winds in the south.

"A north/south divide is expected to continue through the rest of the period with settled conditions and milder temperatures prevailing in the south, whilst unsettled and wetter conditions with strong winds are seen across northern regions, especially the northwest, with near-average temperatures.

"Some, mostly short-lived, spells of colder temperatures are likely in the north and northwest, where some wintry showers could develop."
