Smirking man’s thumbs up after dog bit lodger’s bum when he drank boiling vodka
A man gave a thumbs up after his bull mastiff bit his lodger's bum as he drank boiling vodka from a saucepan.
Craig Buxton's cross-breed Diesel mauled Lee Murray after he burnt his lips and went on a rampage after an all-night bender.
The 27-year-old was banned from keeping dogs after his bull mastiff Aquita left him with bite marks to both legs and buttocks.
The dog may now be put down, Stoke Sentinel reports.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the incident took place at a house in Stoke where Mr Murray was renting a room from Buxton.
The two men had been drinking together when they started fighting and Buxton’s dog – called Diesel – set upon the victim.
The court must now decide what will happen to Diesel, who has been in police kennels since the incident.
Prosecutor Hunter Gray said the pair drank together after Mr Murray arrived home at 1am after a night out with his girlfriend.
"Initially everyone was in good spirits. Mr Buxton was drinking vodka straight from the bottle," he said.
"Gradually his behaviour became more erratic. By 6.30am, Mr Buxton boiled vodka in a saucepan and drank it, burning his lips in the process. He headbutted a wall and was smashing things up.
“Mr Murray became concerned some of his items might be damaged, so he intervened.
"A scuffle then ensued and, during that scuffle, Diesel began biting Mr Murray.”

Police officer shouted 'you b*****d' as he punched puppy leaving dog yelping in pain
Buxton, of West Street, Crewe, but formerly of Cornwallis Street in Stoke, initially pleaded not guilty to being the owner of a dog which caused injury while being dangerously out of control, but changed his plea to guilty on the day his trial was due to start.
The court heard he had 14 previous convictions for 22 offences.
Adam Watkins, mitigating, said: “This is a defendant who had a difficult upbringing.
He has been diagnosed with ADHD and has not helped himself by his use of cannabis as a coping facility."

Judge Sally Hancox handed Buxton a two-year community order with a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
She disqualified him from owning a dog for 10 years and he gave a thumbs up outside court.
Judge Hancox said: “However the scuffle started what you did not do, which you absolutely should have done – for your sake, his sake and Diesel’s sake – was to make sure, if you could see your dog was behaving in a way which was a threat to another human, you should have done everything in your power to make sure your dog was taken away and calmed. You let yourself, your friend and your dog down that day.”
