Shoplifter got mate to fake heart attack in Only Fools And Horses-style theft

A serial shoplifter got his mate to fake heart attacks to distract staff.

Paul Williams, 30, asked pal Dave Smith to pretend he had heart trouble, a court heard.

Williams, inset, then stole goods while staff tried to “save” his friend’s life. The scam echoed an episode of Only Fools And Horses when Del Boy and his mates are conned by jewellery dealer “Arnie”.

Williams’ New Year raids took place at three shops in North Wales and saw goods worth around £580 being taken from the stores.

At Caernarfon Crown Court, Williams, of no fixed address, admitted eight charges of theft and four of assault. He was jailed for 14 months.

Faker Smith was dealt with at a previous hearing.
