A sheep found dead in a park is feared to have been slaughtered in a Black Magic’ ritual…in Cleethorpes.

Councillors are probing the gruesome discovery by junior football club members ahead of their weekend training session at a park in the North East Lincolnshire seaside resort. They had to walk the pitch to clear it of debris.

The lamb had been butchered and had its head cut off before its remains were stuffed inside a bag dumped beside bushes.

Inside there was also a sealed bag of urine. Sickened club officials realised what the animal was when they spotted its little trotters’.

Locals have reported hearing a 1 am commotion in the park.

Sidney Park Junior Football Club official Gareth Kaye spotted a swarm of flies circling the bag.

"It was horrible,’’ he said. "We were all shocked. This is an area used by young footballers. Initially, we thought it was a poodle dog which had been dumped.

"But when we saw the little trotters we realised it was a sheep. We rolled it over and it stank and was covered in flies.

"Everyone walked away. It was upsetting. It had been decapitated and it had been butchered. There was a sealed bag with urine.

"Why would anyone do that to a lamb? People said it was a satanic ritual. But to me, it shows no compassion for an animal. It is senseless.’’

Local councillor Marie Green said: "The lamb's head had been removed and the lamb disembowelled. There was a bag of urine beside it.

"It makes you think it has been some kind of animal sacrifice or Black Magic. There have been problems in the park with young people gathering in the evenings and setting fire to litter.

"There are a few problems with anti-social behaviour."

The carcass has been removed by staff from North East Lincolnshire Council.

It is not the first time witchcraft has been suspected after decapitated lambs were found in Britain. In 2019 two were discovered at a 2,000-acre farm in Middle Taphouse, Cornwall.

Local pest controller Brian Lemin said at the time: I do know that there have been cases where sheep's heads have been used in witchcraft.

The farmer told me there was not much blood at the scene where they were found.’’ In 2009 Rev Nick Bromfield warned `dark forces’ were at work after he found a severed sheep's head mounted on a pole outside a church in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

He said then: "I’ve seen signs of satanic activity in the forest. I've been told there are people operating in a darker place. People need to leave well alone. They are allowing in forces that can do great damage.’’

Unlike Cleethorpes, the Forest of Dean has long been regarded as a place of ghosts, big cat sightings and other strange happenings.

Rev Bromfield said he had received increasing requests for him to bless homes because owners feared something was amiss.

"My message to the people is 'don't mess' because you risk being duped or unleashing forces you cannot control,’’ he added.
