A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for London and Middlesex County.

The warning, issued just after 4:30 p.m., says thunderstorms making their way east from Michigan will pass over sections of Essex County near Lake Huron just before 5 p.m., impacting the areas around Grand Bend and Parkhill.

“A few wind gusts of 90 km/h may be associated along with torrential downpours and frequent lightning,” the advisory said.

An earlier severe thunderstorm watch said torrential downpours with 50 millimetres of rain per hour would be possible.

Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches are also in place for several other areas around London.

London’s forecast calls for a 70 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and evening, gusty winds, an afternoon high of 30 C, feeling like 38 C, and an overnight low of 19 C.
