A wave of sex scandals has forced the UK's biggest business group to axe all future parties.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which represents a whopping 190,000 businesses, has pulled the plug on all social events after allegations of sexual assault and rape began to emerge.

The conglomerate won't even host its swanky annual dinner scheduled for next month, which had the likes of the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, on its elite guest list.

The news comes just weeks after an employee accused chief executive Tony Danker, 51, of sexual harassment, forcing him to resign.

Danker said in a tweet that he was "mortified" to hear he had caused "offence or anxiety to any colleague".

"It was completely unintentional, and I apologise profusely," he wrote.

He is now under investigation following the claim.

More than a dozen women also came forward this week making their own allegations of sexual misconduct by senior employees at CBI.

One even claimed she was raped at a Thames boat party for staff back in 2019 and said when she brought up the issue later she was told by a manager to seek counselling instead of pursuing the issue.

The woman said she had not reported the event to the police and the CBI told the newspaper it had no record of the incident.

A CBI spokesperson said: "In light of the very serious allegations currently subject to independent investigation, the CBI has decided to temporarily pause its external programme of events, including the annual dinner on 11 May."

The group added: "The CBI has treated and continues to treat all matters of workplace conduct with the utmost seriousness, which is why last month we commissioned a thorough investigation by an independent law firm into all recent allegations that have been put to us.

"We will not hesitate to take any necessary action when the investigation concludes."

The findings of initial investigations are expected later this month.
