More sickening details have emerged from the popular Australian beach where a male swimmer screamed for help as he failed to fight off a 15ft great white shark while a witness vomited at the sight.

Beachgoers witnessed the swimmer's final moments as they watched the huge beast rip him into two pieces before eating him alive earlier on Wednesday (February 16).

Little Bay Beach was reportedly packed with paddle boarders and fishermen at the time of the incident, which was around 5pm local time.

The incident is the first fatal shark attack in Sydney for almost 60 years.

People were only alerted to the danger when they heard the man scream as witnesses say they saw the shark rip the man’s body into two pieces.

The great white then swallowed part of the body as rescuers found human remains in the water.

One man speaking to ABC: said: “When he went down there were so many splashes.

“It was terrible, I am shaking. I keep vomiting, it’s very upsetting.”

Another witness also told ABC how he heard “yelling” and “the shark wouldn’t stop".

He added: “It's very, very upsetting. He just went down for a swim, enjoying the day, but that shark took his life."

The incident was recorded by a man, who is believed to be a fisherman, at a popular rock fishing spot called Buchan Point.

In the footage, the voice of fisherman is heard describing the shark attack as the man says the beast looked like “a car landing in the water”.

He said: “'I just saw a four to five metre great white explode on the surface just here on a swimmer and it was like a car landing in the water.

“F*** man, I heard a scream and the shark was just chomping on his body and the body was in half just off the rocks here.

"It came back and swallowed parts of his body and that was it. It disappeared."

Emergency services were dispatched with four ambulance crews and a rescue helicopter with a critical care doctor onboard.

However, there was nothing the services could do when they arrived.

Speaking with 7NEWS, Ambulance NSW Inspector Lucky Phrachanh said: "Unfortunately, this person had suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the attack and there was nothing paramedics could do when we arrived on scene.”

Police are continuing to investigate and will resume a search with divers at sunrise on Thursday but All beaches in the Randwick council area will be closed for 24 hours.
