Scots furious as pubs reopen serving indoors – with no alcohol allowed

Scottish Twitter is outraged after Nicola Sturgeon confirmed Scot pub-goers can return to indoor pubs from next week – but with no booze.

The SNP leader declared that hospitality will return with customers able to eat and drink indoors following the success of the vaccine rollout.

However, their venues are expected to close at 8pm and no alcohol is to be served inside.

People will be able to meet others for a meal or drink, with up to six people from two households allowed to socialise in a public place. Venues will also be required to take down the contact details of their customers.

Sturgeon claims the 'additional precaution' was needed to help with track and trace in the event of further Covid outbreaks.

Scots took to Twitter to share their frustration that they will not be able to drink indoors.

@Mr_Leibour tweeted: "Did she announce that cinemas can open too, but they can't show films?"

@Fergie1872 said: "…also announced public toilets have reopened but you cannae do a sh*te."

@Ian_Burnett wrote: "Nicola Sturgeon announces that you may be allowed to go inside pubs from the 26th of April but there will be no alcohol. In a separate statement, it was also announced swimming pools could open without water, saunas without steam and massage parlours without masseuses."

Despite the seemingly relaxing rules in Scotland, Sturgeon also stressed that while people would be able to meet indoors in places such as cafes, it was not yet possible for them to meet others in private homes.

She said that she knows "that can seem illogical, it can seem really difficult and unfair" but claims risks of transmitting the virus could be higher in people's homes.

Meanwhile, across the border, England will be sticking with its original laid out in the road map that will see indoor hospitality return on May 17 (hopefully, with the beer taps on).

PM Boris Johnson has said that the lifting of restrictions will not go any faster than planned despite pressure cranking up.

The Prime Minister is expected to make further announcements tonight at 5pm.
