ScotRail passengers horrified as sewage leaks through busy carriage from bust toilet on Glasgow to Edinburgh train

SCOTRAIL passengers were horrified when a bust loo left filth streaming through their carriage.

Grim photos taken on the packed Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh rush-hour train show sewage leaking from a toilet.

And one disgusted commuter said: “The water was running from one end of the carriage to the other.

“I only noticed when I picked my bag off the floor and it was soaked. I complained on Twitter but nobody checked the toilet.

“It’s shocking and surely a health and safety risk.”

Wednesday evening’s nightmare journey came after delays saw travellers jammed into three carriages instead of seven.

We told this week how fines for shoddy performance amount to just 1.4 per cent of Scotrail’s £1billion taxpayer subsidy.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “This is a completely unacceptable situation and we are sorry to our customers who were affected.

ScotRail staff forced to wear own clothes to work due to uniform 'backlog'

“Our social media team were notified and we immediately informed our frontline people to allow for the issue to be resolved.

“We set very high standards for the cleanliness of our trains and they are cleaned regularly by our dedicated traincare presentation teams.

“We ask anyone who sees anything that falls below those high standards to alert a member of train or station staff immediately so that it can be resolved.”
