A SCHOOLBOY was forced to watch as his dad stabbed his mum to death before taking his own life in a murder-suicide in Melbourne, it is reported.

The young child, 8, was reportedly sat in a car with his mum when her ex-husband allegedly launched the attack outside a block of flats in Australia.

He was later removed from the car unharmed and taken into police care, however both parents died at the scene.

Officers found the 36-year-old woman's body still inside the white Audi, and the remains of a 40-year-old man beside the vehicle.

According to 9News, the man attacked his estranged wife, from whom he had recently separated, on Saturday afternoon, as she sat inside the vehicle. He then turned the knife on himself.

Speaking to The Age, a neighbour said that the couple lived in the area a decade ago.

He said: "They [lived] here about 10 years ago. They bought a house in Blackburn and had this place rented out.

"Then recently they had separated and he had moved back in last Sunday."

Another neighbour Hans Pecar told 9News: "Normal people going about their lives… I never would have thought something like that would happen."

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with both of the deaths.

A police spokesperson said: “The exact cause of death is yet to be determined at this stage and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident."
