Schoolboy, 16, and teen, 18, arrested after boy, 11, shot when dad answered door to gang disguised as delivery drivers – The Sun

A SCHOOLBOY aged 16 and another teen, 18, have been quizzed by detectives over a fake delivery burglary on a house where an innocent 11-year-old was shot.

The boy, who suffered life-changing injuries, had been playing a video game when he was attacked in his family’s house in Upminster, Havering.

His dad – named as flooring firm boss Ray Hawkins, 45 –opened the door believing it was post being delivered at 9.30pm on Friday night.

The gang then rushed in to the £500,000 property, slashing his head with a machete, and shouting for the security box, before yelling “We want the money from the safe”.

HORRIFIC RAID

His son was in another room playing a game and was shot during the horrific raid.

The Sun understands the two men were arrested from an address near to the house that was targeted.

A police spokesman said: “Detectives investigating a shooting incident in Upminster in which a child was injured have made two arrests.

“The males, aged 16 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and taken into police custody.

“A dedicated team of officers from the Specialist Crime Command are carrying out various enquiries in relation to the incident.

“Detectives have established that the homeowner opened the front door to a person purporting to be a delivery driver; this male, and a number of other suspects – believed to be in possession of a knife – forced their way into the property.

“Two firearms were recovered from the address. Work continues to establish the full circumstances.”

The young victim was last night still in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

There were reports at least one of the men – all of whom were in masks – may have been dressed in a delivery uniform.

It was also claimed a knife was used to threaten the throat of another woman in the house during the raid, believed to be Ray’s wife Laura.
