School bus driver stabbed to death in front of horrified children on way home

A bus driver was stabbed to death in front of terrified young children on their way home from school.

Richard Lenhart, 72, died of his injuries after a man leaped onto his school bus as it was collecting kids from Longfellow Elementary School, Washington, US.

The killer knifed Mr Lenhart while he was driving, leading the bus to mount a curb and careen into a nearby hedge, MailOnline reported.

Mr Lenhart was stabbed at around 3.10pm on Friday.

He was rushed to hospital, where the bus driver died of his injuries.

No children were harmed in the collision, local police confirmed.

The suspect waited at the scene and was arrested without protest.

They are yet to be named by cops.

Horrified children who witnessed the attack have been offered counselling by the school.

The primary school kids were taken back to school, where their parents were told to pick them up.

Pasco School District's superintendent tried to reassure parents in a statement posted on Facebook.
