-50 wind chills finally roll out as a warm-up kicks in for the weekend.

Extreme cold warning

Environment Canada has continued an extreme cold warning for Saskatoon and most of Saskatchewan for -40 to -55 wind chills persisting into the weekend.

An arctic high-pressure ridge has settled in over Saskatchewan with -40 degree temperature readings over parts of the western and northern grainbelt.

Saskatoon forecast

Friday

After 2 days in a row with -40 temperatures and -50 wind chills in Saskatoon, Friday started off on a milder note, at -39 with wind chills down to -47 to finish the first full week of February.

Misty conditions continued through the morning as the mercury rose up to -31 degrees heading into the noon hour.

Sunshine then kicked in during the afternoon as the region warmed all the way into the mid -20s for a daytime high with wind chills climbing into the -30s.

Friday night

Clouds slide in Friday night with temperatures cooling back into the -30s overnight with wind chills making it feel like the -40s at times, meaning skin can freeze in minutes.

Saturday

-40 wind chills will linger to start the weekend as clouds continue into early Saturday and linger into the day.

Skies start to clear later in the afternoon as the region warms to an afternoon high around -25 degrees with wind chills in the mid -30s.

High pressure will help clear skies during the day on Saturday.

Sunday

Another round of clouds slides in after some possible morning sunny breaks on Sunday, which will help warm thermometers up from the -30s back into the -20s during the day.

There is a slight chance of snow later in the day as the region gets all the way to an afternoon high around -23 degrees.

Temperatures climb all the way up into the -23 to -22 range on Sunday.

Workweek outlook

Snow slides in with a system passing by on Sunday before skies start to clear by mid-week as afternoon highs hop into the -18 to -20 degree range with morning lows likely to stay in the -20s most days.
