At Hope Hostel in Kigali, those flown out of Britain will get shoes, a limitless supply of free toiletries and a monthly allowance of about £90. Written over the entrance at Hope is the slogan “come as a guest, leave as a friend”.

It can house 100 people and the bedrooms have views of the city and countryside, with some opening on to a garden.

A play area is being built if and when children are among the arrivals.

The estimated daily total cost to accommodate just one migrant at Hope Hostel is £48.

Deputy managing director Phiona Uwerahit said: “We want to make them feel at home and have everything they could want.We hope they will be happy here.”
