Russian woman arrested in Iran accused of ‘spying for Israel’
A Russian woman has been arrested at her hotel in Iran accused of “spying for Israel”, it has emerged today.
Journalist Yulia Yuzik, who published a book called “Brides of Allah”, was seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Russian media.
The elite military force burst into her hotel room on Wednesday, five days after she arrived in the country.
Yuzik’s ex-husband Boris Voytsekhovskiy told RBC news: “They took her passport on arrival in Tehran and told her they’ll give it back on her departure.
“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps broke into her hotel room yesterday and accused her of cooperating with Israeli security services.”
On Facebook, he added that her trial is scheduled for Saturday.
He said the spying charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years if Yuzik is found guilty.

In her last Instagram post two days ago, Yuzik posted a selfie of herself in a blue headscarf and a picture of a blue mosque.
Captioning it, she wrote: “50 shades of blue (in fact, I'm afraid that someday I will come here and not come back).”
Russia’s Embassy in Tehran said it was aware of Yuzik’s detention and was “dealing with the situation.”
Yuzik has worked as a reporter for Komsomolskaya Pravda and Russian Newsweek journal.
