Russian missiles that obliterate targets in minutes to be ‘ready next month’

A new anti-aircraft missile system capable of obliterating targets in five minutes has arrived at a Russian army camp ahead of being deployed for duty next month.

The mammoth S-400 war weapon was delivered to the Kaputstin Yar training ground along with 300 officers and 200 pieces of military equipment, Russian officials said.

Specialist engineers are now set to carry out maintenance work on the deadly system before giving it the green light to be used in combat.

The S-400 Triumph is a Russian long-and-medium range anti-aircraft missile system designed to destroy aerodynamic and ballistic targets.

They lethal weapons can reach their targets in just five minutes, Tvzvezda reported.

The S-400 missiles air defence systems are some of the most advanced in the world, according to reports.

According to Sputnik, a Russian state-owned news agency, Russian air defence is equipped with at least 125 battalions of S-300s (about 1,500 launchers total) and 69 battalions of S-400s (552 launchers).

Since 2007, the S-400 has been able to detect and destroy aircraft and cruise and ballistic missiles, while also being capable of eliminating ground-based installations.

It can engage targets at a range of up to 400 kilometres, at heights of up to 30 kilometres, along with providing stealth capabilities.

The Russian Defence Ministry said: “At the basing point, the weapons will undergo a full range of maintenance work, after which, in December, the S-400 crews will take up combat duty to protect the airspace.

Just last week Russian military officials claimed to have tested an ‘unstoppable’ missile that flies at 10,000km/h and could destroy potential US targets in under five minutes.

Known as Mach 8 Zircon, the hypersonic weapon has been touted as President Vladimir Putin’s “weapon of choice”.

On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry said: “The lead frigate of Project 22350 'Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Gorshkov' fired a Zircon hypersonic cruise missile from the White Sea at a complex target position located in the Barents Sea.

“Rocket fire was carried out as part of testing new types of weapons.

“According to objective control data, the Zircon hypersonic anti-ship missile successfully hit a sea target at a distance of 450 km. The rocket flight speed was more than Mach 8.

“Project 22350 frigates are multifunctional warships capable of effectively fighting surface, air and underwater adversaries, as well as striking land and coastal targets over a distance of over 1,50KM.”
