Royal Family at risk of ‘losing diversity’, Harry and Meghan’s biographer warns

Journalist and friend of Meghan Markle Omid Scobie has repeated his warning to the Royal Family that they risk “losing diversity”.

The Finding Freedom co-author has re-shared a tweet he originally posted on March 7 2020, which showed Meghan visiting a London school claiming that it “illustrates what the Royal Family is about to lose”.

Scobie has previously courted controversy by accusing the Royal Family of trying to hush up the claims against Prince Andrew surrounding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

On Sunday, hours before the Sussexes' interview with Oprah is set to air, Scobie retweeted an image of Meghan visiting Robert Clack school in Dagenham, with the caption: "A year ago today."

The original tweet reads:

“I rarely add my own opinion to reporting but if ever there was a photo that illustrates what the Royal Family is about to lose – it’s this. Diversity, modernity, inclusivity and representation.”

Scobie had previously surprised viewers on Good Morning Britain by suggesting that the Royal Family were hushing up the accusations against Prince Andrew.

Andrew was known to have had a long friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking about the accusations of bullying against Meghan, Scobie told Good Morning Britain:

“It is an unprecedented moment for the Palace to announce to the entire world that there would be an HR investigation.

“This is the institution that has remained dead silent about all of the Prince Andrew accusations.

“It does feel like we have a slightly uneven playing field here.”

Many have highlighted an inconsistency in how Meghan Markle has been treated as opposed to wife of Prince William, Kate Middleton.

Some have also expressed the view that Meghan’s ethnicity may have been a factor in the treatment that she has received.

However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams disagreed with Scobie’s comments, telling MailOnline:

“Andrew indeed faces serious allegations and we await further developments, as he has promised to cooperate with the FBI investigation into Epstein's accomplices to bring justice for his victims.

“There is also an investigation by the French police and Scotland Yard has expressed willingness to assist the FBI. It has, however, not been proven he did anything criminal.”

He added: “Bringing this up is an attempt to deflect attention from the allegations of bullying by Meghan."

A spokesperson for Meghan Markle told MailOnline: “The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.

“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
