Residents’ fury after developer is allowed to demolish brand new homes worth £6.5million because they won’t sell – The Sun
RESIDENTS have blasted the “incredible decision” to demolish five brand new homes worth £6.5million that won’t sell.
Property developer Alex Collier, 40, applied to bulldoze the houses priced at £1.3million each to make way for 30 flats.
Mr Collier blamed the uncertainty over Brexit for putting off potential buyers.
Neighbours are angry the council granted permission despite 100 objections in Poole, Dorset.
Residents leader Adrian Wardlow said: "We've received so many complaints about this application.
"Only the developer and the planning committee seem to think its appropriate. It's an incredible decision, we can't make sense of it all.
"The Brexit excuse is laughable and treating us with absolute contempt.
"The original homes were obnoxious and overpriced. It is quite clear from viewing the existing properties that they would never sell at the asking prices.
"The planning committee seems to have decided to help the developer get himself out of a hole by knocking them down."
Poole planning officer Claire Spiller said the flats would provide “additional residential units”.
