Health professionals have reassured the public after royal fans spotted the Queen's hands looking an unusual purple colour in new pictures this week.
Users took to social media to discuss her health after the publication of the images from her face-to-face meeting with General Sir Nick Carter at Windsor Castle.
While some saw her being up and on her feet as a sign of recovery, others expressed concern over the changed appearance of one of her limbs.
The 95-year-old cancelled a number of engagements in November following numerous health scares, and even had to pull out of the Remembrance Sunday celebrations because of a strained back.
A passionate Twitter user wrote: " I worry so much about the queen, looking at this photograph her hands looks so purple. This is a sign of bad circulation, isn’t there anything that they can do to improve it? We don’t want to lose her, not yet, not for a long time. We need our queen, God save the Queen."
According to one doctor, there could be a number of reasons for the hand problem.
Speaking to The Metro, Doctor Jay Verma of the Shakespeare Medical Centre in Leeds said: “It might be Raynaud’s phenomenon or just really cold hands.
"The purple is due to deoxygenated blood.”
She added that the hand colour can be caused by “lack of circulation, frail skin, exposed veins, bruising, a leakage of blood to the tissue beneath the skin"
The NHS website describes Raynaud's, one of Dr Verma's suggested reasons for the colour of Her Majesty's hands, as a condition affecting circulation that arises in some situations, such as when "you're cold, anxious or stressed".
The Queen had not been seen at in-person event in more than a month before since she hosted a reception for the global investment summit at Windsor on Tuesday, October 19.
She held a face-to-face audience last week with Boris Johnson but was not pictured during the meeting.
Sir Nick is stepping down as chief of defence staff at the end of this month.
