Queen ‘very sad’ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t bring Archie on UK return

The Queen is reportedly "very sad" that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not be bringing baby Archie to the UK for their final engagements.

The couple are due back in Britain after their sensational decision to step down from the royal family.

They have moved to Canada with Archie, where they said they will move towards becoming "financially independent".

And for their final UK engagements, they will leave their nine-month-old behind.

But it hasn't gone down well with Her Majesty, according to reports.

The Sunday Times understands she is "very sad" about how littles she sees of her grandson, who is yet to set foot on British soil this year.

It is also understood that Archie being left at home will create a security headache , because officers will have to carefully split their time between guarding the Duchess of Sussex and her son in Canada.

It is reported that it will add a £50,000 cost to their security bill.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Canada will not cover their security costs, police said.

Bill Blair, Canada's Public Safety Minister, said the support would stop once they are no longer members of the royal family.

He said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex choosing to re-locate to Canada on a part-time basis presented our government with a unique and unprecedented set of circumstances.

“The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) has been engaged with officials in the UK from the very beginning regarding security considerations.

"As the Duke and Duchess are currently recognized as Internationally Protected Persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis.

“At the request of the Metropolitan Police, the RCMP has been providing assistance to the Met since the arrival of the Duke and Duchess to Canada intermittently since October 2019.

"The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status.”
