The Queen has wished grandson Prince William a happy birthday and shared touching pictures of the royal and his wife.

The Duke of Cambridge turns 39 today, June 21, and is expected to celebrate at home with Kate Middleton and their kids.

In one picture, the duke is seen smiling alongside Kate during 2019’s Trooping the Colour.

William was also snapped during a royal visit to Edinburgh with Kate.

The images were posted on the Royal Family's Twitter page with the message: "Wishing The Duke of Cambridge a very Happy Birthday."

William will be celebrating the final birthday of his 30s after surprising runners at a race around the Sandringham Estate on Sunday, June 20.

Pictures emerged showing William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte gathering around a microphone and appearing to count down to the start of the race.

George and Charlotte were photographed wearing shorts and trainers, while the duke was dressed in a blue shirt and a pair of navy chinos.

Brian Cook, who participated in the run and photographed the royal trio, said it was a "nice surprise, and nice of them to do".

According to the event's website, Run Sandringham was welcoming hundreds of runners of all abilities and ages to run a half marathon, 5K or community mile, with the aim of raising "many thousands of pounds for good causes".

It is understood the duke was not running in the event and was there in a private capacity.

William will be reunited with brother Prince Harry in the grounds of Kensington Palace on July 1, where they will unveil a statue of their mum Princess Diana.

Harry and William had been working on the project together since 2017, and the event will mark what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday.

A source earlier told the Daily Mirror: "Harry has said he will do his utmost to be there.

"He wants to put on a united front with William and pay an appropriate tribute to their mother."

A plinth for the statue has been laid in the palace's Sunken Garden.

It is said to have been Diana's favourite spot in the grounds.
