From 2017, Queen Elizabeth has spent every Valentine's Day apart from her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip.

This is because ever since Phillip retired from his royal responsibilities, he has lived at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate – while his wife Queen Elizabeth usually divides her time between Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

While living apart, the pair reportedly still communicated every day via phone, with some royal insiders explaining that the Queen describes Prince Philip as her "strength and stay" during some recent turbulent times.

However, due to the unprecedented circumstances that the COVID-19 crisis has brought up, Prince Philip has moved back into the same residence as the Queen.

The pair took the decision to reunite just before the second national lockdown to ensure they could spend their 73rd wedding anniversary together, while also seeing out the remainder of the lockdown alongside each other.

This means the royals, who have seven decades of marriage under their belt, will be in each other's company on Valentine's Day for the first time in four years.

The couple are a symbol of true love to many, given the amount of years they have spent together.

Their lengthy marriage has always being in the public eye, and the couple have four children (Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward), as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The younger royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, are likely to enjoy a quiet Valentine's Day, with lockdown rendering most royal events cancelled.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge can use this bizarre break in the royal calendar to spend the day together and take time for themselves.
