Prison forced to replace majority of its locks after jailer’s keys pinched by inmate – The Sun

A PRISON is having to replace its locks after a jailer’s keys were pinched by an inmate.

Staff were told to carry out a full search and specialists were even brought in to check the drains after the gaffe.

But the keys, snatched last Wednesday at Doncaster jail, have still not been found.

Even if they are, they could have already been copied for an escape bid.

Private firm Serco, which runs the prison, said the “majority” of locks would be replaced.

Jail director Jerry Spencer said: “We have additional measures in place until the security issue from last week is resolved.

“The incident has been referred to the police so it would be inappropriate to comment further at the moment.”

Other jails have previously spent more than £400,000 changing them.

The theft comes after an inspection report raised concerns about overcrowding, violence, deaths and drugs there.
