Princess Eugenie to snub royal title for baby in bid to beat ‘curse’

Princess Eugenie says royal titles "are a curse" and she won't accept one for her baby if given one by the Queen, according to a family friend.

The pregnant royal has snubbed the idea of a royal title because she wants her unborn baby to lead an "ordinary life," reports Vanity Fair.

This comes as the Queen's granddaughter announced last week, her and husband Jack Brooksbank, 34, are expecting a baby.

A close family friend disclosed Princess Eugenie, 30, says "titles don't matter" and the couple just want a "happy healthy child" who they will raise in Kensington Palace.

They said: “Eugenie knows that a title can be a curse as well as a blessing and she and Jack want their child to live an ordinary life and eventually work to earn a living. Titles really don’t matter to Jack and Eugenie, they just want a happy healthy child.”

The baby is expected in early 2021, and will reportedly have an "ordinary" name.

Unlike the grandchildren of the monarch, Eugenie's baby will not be automatically given a HRH title, however the Queen is able to offer titles as a gift.

But Jack and Eugenie do not desire to take up this offer, according to the source.

The Queen and Prince Philip ’s granddaughter shared the happy news on September 25.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021…”

Alongside the caption she posted a picture of baby slippers, and a picture of her and Jack beaming at the camera.

  • Princess Eugenie pregnant: Royal announces she's expecting a baby in early 2021

An statement from the Royal Family’s official twitter account read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”

Princess Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, which makes her 10th in line to the throne.

That means her son or daughter would be 11th in the line of succession.

This would knock Prince Edward, the Queen’s youngest son, down to number 12.

The baby will be the first grandchild for Eugenie’s parents, and will be the Queen and Prince Philip’s ninth great-grandchild.
