PRINCESS Diana’s lover Oliver Hoare left a post-tax estate worth £745,249.

The dad of three, 73, who died in August last year from cancer at home in France, put the money in trust for wife Diane de Waldner and then his three children.

Diana was said to be obsessed in 1992 with Mr Hoare, an art dealer specialising in Islamic art.

She used to smuggle the Old Etonian into Kensington Palace in her car’s boot, and hoped to live with him in Italy. But he refused to leave his French oil heiress wife.

Police traced 300 calls to Diana’s private line in Kensington Palace, while others came from phone boxes around Kensington.

The inquiry was stopped by Mr Hoare, a pal of Prince Charles.

He left shares in Oliver Hoare Ltd to son Damian, 40, who now runs it. Accounts show it has equity of £2.5million.

Hoare left his personal items – known as chattels – to his wife and children, and asked them to have regard to his wishes when disposing of the items.

The art dealer went at school at Eton before studying art history at the Sorbonne in Paris, joined Christie’s in London, and helped launch the auction house’s Islamic art department before opening his own gallery,
Hoare and his wife were friends of Prince Charles and Princess Diana and were guests at Windsor Castle.
