Online trolls are once again claiming that James Hewitt is Prince Harry’s dad in the wake of his interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The 62-year-old former Cavalry Officer had an affair with Princess Diana during her marriage to Prince Charles.

Over the years, Hewitt has repeatedly denied that he is Harry’s dad and insisted that he didn’t meet the royal until after the Duke of Sussex was born.

However, social media users have again started spreading the false rumour on Twitter.

The baseless theory is grounded in the fact that they both have ginger hair and look slightly similar.

One user wrote: “Harry isn't even Royalty, everyone in the UK knows he is the result of Diana's affair with James Hewitt.”

Another claimed: “I suggest a DNA test for Harry and James Hewitt. Settle the mystery. No way in hell is Charles Harry's dad.”

At one point during the interview, Harry said that he was “really let down” by Prince Charles and claimed his dad had stopped taking his calls.

Other Twitter users seized upon this and shared a series of cruel jokes.

One posted: “Harry said that his dad stopped taking his calls. Maybe James Hewitt was busy.”

Another asked: “So…Prince Harry says his father is now refusing to take his calls. Whatever happened to James Hewitt?”

Diana discussed her relationship with Hewitt in the famous 1995 BBC Panorama interview, confessing that she loved him.

The pair eventually went separate ways after he was deployed to serve in the Gulf War.

Last week, it was revealed that Hewitt is now living with his elderly mum and working as a £4,000 a year gardener at a manor house in Farringdon, Devon.

Pictures obtained by the MailOnline showed him tending to the grass in a lawnmower and raking away leaves.

Residents claim he “made a dog’s dinner” of a 100-year-old yew tree.

Barry Presswell, 76, said: “Hewitt said he wanted it to look 'regal and shaped like a wine glass' and brought a tree surgeon in which cost the residents £1500 and he cut it down.”

He claimed the tree had been reduced from 18ft to 10ft, adding: “It looks like an octopus. It is dreadful.

“I went down to try and stop them and even said I would stay there until they stopped. But I was too late.

“It is ruined. Hewitt did say sorry and that there had been a mistake, but we are extremely upset about this.

“Now we can see right through to the road where before it was a lovely view of the tree.”
