Prince Harry ‘heartbroken’ as he faces ‘choice between Meghan and The Queen’

Prince Harry is heartbroken as he faces having to choose between Meghan Markle and The Queen, sources have claimed.

It came after last week Harry and Meghan announced plans to step back as “senior Royals” without getting the okay from the Palace.

Prince Charles, Prince William and The Queen will today sit-down with Harry at Sandringham to thrash out the couple’s future.

Meghan is with their baby son Archie in Canada, but a royal source said it is likely she will join the crisis talks by phone.

A source said: “[Meghan] wants to leave. She thinks ‘it’s not working for me’.[Harry] is under intense pressure to choose.

“It is said. He loves The Queen. He loves this country. He loves all his military stuff.

“I think it will genuinely break his heart to leave. I don’t think that’s what he really wants. I think they want some halfway house.”

Royal insiders on William’s side have denied he is at the heart of the breakdown, saying he is “upset” by the falling out.

Senior courtiers are reportedly working to try and put together a plan to try and keep the Sussexes involved in the Royals.

Harry and Meghan announced their plans last week and sent shockwaves through the Royal Family – raising questions about the future of the entire institution.

The Queen reportedly found out about the social media announcement on TV, while William and Charles were briefed on the statement just 10 minutes before it was released online.

The couple plan to split their team between Britain, the US and Canada as they forge a “progressive new role” within the institutions.

Questions have been raised over funding as the Sussexes said they want to be “financially independent”.

And should they ditch the majority of their duties, the threat of losing their HRH titles also looms over the couple.

Harry will come face-to-face with the Queen, his dad Charles, and his brother Wills for the first time today at Sandringham.

Meghan flew to Canada a few days ago where the family spent an extended festive break in the province of British Columbia.

It is thought William will be travelling to the estate in Norfolk from his Kensington Palace apartment and Harry from Frogmore Cottage near Windsor Castle.

The Queen, 93, attended church at Sandringham on Sunday where wellwishers expressed sympathy for her, and clapped as she left – being pictured wearing a hearing aide for the first time.

It is not known what time the family plan to meet, how long the summit is expected to last or whether the entire day has been set aside to find a solution.

Before the meeting, the royals will be given written proposals produced by their offices and others, including relevant government departments from the UK and Canada, where it is thought Harry and Meghan will establish a second home.

It is not known who else, if anyone, will be at the meeting – but it is likely the private secretaries of the four royals may join part of the talks to assist with any questions.

A royal source said "next steps" will be agreed at the meeting, adding that it is the Queen's wish that the issue is resolved "at pace".

Some at Buckingham Palace are reported to fear that Harry and Meghan could conduct a potentially damaging television interview if they do not get what they want.

In an article for The Sunday Times, broadcaster Tom Bradby – a friend of both Harry and William – said: "I have some idea of what might be aired in a full, no-holds-barred, sit-down interview and I don't think it would be pretty."

It came after months of rumours and speculation that Harry and Meghan were growing increasingly isolated from the rest of the Royals.

William has reportedly said he feels sorrow that he and Harry are now "separate entities".

He apparently told a friend: "I've put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can't do that anymore."

Palace sources last week said talks are expected to take “days not weeks” about thrashing out a new role for the Sussexes.
