Prince Charles TAKEOVER BLOW as friend of royals says ‘Queen WON’T step aside’

The Prince of Wales won’t take over from the Queen when she turns 95 because she “doesn’t want to stop”, the pal has told us.

Charles has long been reportedly set to “take over” Her Majesty in 2021 when she will supposedly trigger the “Regency Act”.

This legislation would see Charles made a Prince Regent – becoming King in all but name.

The Prince would take over the Queen’s roles in the new role, but the Queen would remain Monarch, following her promise to stay on the throne untildeath.

But royal and constitutional expert Alastair Bruce has told Daily Star Online he doesn’t think this will happen.

“But I don’t think there is any need… one of the great things about the nature of the way our monarchy works that there are always necessary texts in place that if the Queen were to become severely ill or incapable for whatever reason – through insanity etc – the regency act is there to cover that and so there is never a time that the nation is without that element of process of government.

“But (that said), old age isn’t really deemed to be a cause of incapacity.

“There’s no need for the Queen to step down or stop being monarch, and a regency pretty much says the the monarch is alive but that’s about it.

“(If there was to be a regency) the government can be asked to make an amendment to the regency act, but I wouldn’t know how you would frame it (the legal text) – it would allow a sort of retirement clause I suppose, but there is no retirement clause as such (at the moment).”

Bruce, who is the royal correspondent for Sky News, told Daily Star Online he reckons the Queen – despite her old age – still enjoys her job too much to step aside.

“She has always been interested in the role and in people,” he told us. “She appears to be still profusely interested.

“A lot of people are interested in reading newspapers (for example)… her interest is in which is actually happening in the documents that come from government. She opens her boxes and she knows exactly what is going on and I think that is quite interesting.

“She shows no sign at the age of 93 of not doing all that of not doing all that… I can’t see her stopping.”

Bruce does, however, sees Her Maj slowing down more over the coming years as Charles prepares for the day he takes the throne.

“I think she may choose to do significantly less public engagements depending on her health at the time,” he added.

“In a sense she (the Queen) has already started that process.”
