From turning their homes into classrooms as schools shut down, to making major lifestyle changes to find quick solutions following the sudden absence of childcare services, to stretching funds like never before, mothers, fathers and all of those caring for children in their homes faced seemingly insurmountable challenges this year.

During the second edition of the 2020 ESSENCE Essential Heroes Awards, we were proud to team up with Disney Parks to celebrate 5 mothers who, as essential workers, have dedicated their life’s work to bettering their communities in extraordinary ways.
