Poll shows Biden isn’t losing support from female Democrats

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Joe Biden isn’t getting a thumbs down yet from female Democratic primary voters for his being-too-handsy scandal.

Numbers from a new Morning Consult poll show that 33.1 percent of Democratic women still support the ex-veep – with him losing just .8 percent support among women compared to last week’s survey.

Since March 29, when former Nevada politician Lucy Flores shared her experience of an “awkward kiss” from Biden in an essay for New York Magazine, several women have shared similar stories.

In response, Biden put out a video saying he would listen to women about their concerns about his behavior.

Morning Consult polled 13,644 Democratic primary voters or caucus goers from April 1 to April 7. Among all Democratic primary voters polled, Biden dropped from 33.4 percent to 32.1 percent, just barely outside the poll’s 1 percent margin of error.

Biden’s favorability among Democratic primary voters has softened over the last month, dropping about 10 points. That being said, with 98 percent name recognition, he’s still leading the pack with 35 percent holding a very favorable opinion of Biden and another 40 percent holding a somewhat favorable opinion of the former vice president and ex-U.S. senator from Delaware.

In early February, 46 percent of Democratic primary voters held a very favorable view of Biden.

That’s compared to Sen. Bernie Sanders, considered the crop’s current frontrunner – as Biden has yet to officially announce a presidential bid – who has 32 percent of potential Democratic voters holding a very favorable opinion of him and 40 percent holding a somewhat favorable view of him, with 99 percent name recognition.

In this week’s poll, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg received nearly a 2 point bump, now receiving 4.7 percent of the Democratic voter share.

Biden remains in first place, followed by Sanders with 23.4 percent, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) at 8.6 percent, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) with 7.8 percent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) with 6.9 percent and then Buttigieg.
