Julia Wendell took the internet by storm after revealing she thinks she might be Madeleine McCann, the girl from Leicestershire who went missing while on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007.

Her @IAmMadeleineMcCann Instagram account amassed over one million followers with people captivated by her supposed evidence.

The Polish woman, 21, is no longer on any social media after receiving a number of death threats.

Luckily private detective and self-professed medium Dr Fia Johansson, who has aided police in the US on missing persons cases in the past, is probing Julia's claims and continues to share her findings online.

With Julia awaiting results from three DNA samples as well as a 23andMe-style genetic test, here the Daily Star goes through all her claims.

    Physical similarities

Julia has claimed she has the same rare eye condition as missing Madeleine – a coloboma in her right eye. The condition occurs when part of the eye tissue is missing, and leads to a misshapen pupil.

The close-up images Julia shared don't appear to show a coloboma as obvious as the one in photos of Madeleine.

Crucially however, according to the National Eye Institute, the misshapen pupil can be made to "look rounder" with coloured contact lenses or surgery.

Julia also pointed to freckles she had on her leg and cheek that appeared to be in the same place as the missing toddler.

"I have a mark on the same eye,” she said. "I have a similar shape of face, ears, lips, and gap between my teeth."

    No hospital records

Dr Johansson travelled to Poland to dig deeper into Julia's claims and found there were no hospital records in Wroclaw – the city she supposedly grew up in – relating to the first five years of her life.

The investigator told RadarOnline: "Everything between the ages of zero months to five years – everything — is missing!

"And there is no signature by a doctor showing that they had removed any of the records from her file. She just doesn’t exist during that time frame."

This only reaffirmed Julia's suspicion that her age isn't accurate, given that Madeleine would be 19 rather than 21.

Dr Johansson said she is absolutely convinced Julia was trafficked into Poland as a child, regardless of whether or not she's Madeleine.

    No childhood memories

Julia claimed she doesn't remember large swathes of her childhood.

Moreover, the only vague memories she does have are of being in a hot place with "white buildings".

She claimed: "I don't remember most of my childhood but my earliest memory is very strong and it’s about holidays in hot places where there was a beach and white or very light coloured buildings with apartments.

"I don’t see my family in this memory."

    Links to German paedophile

Julia claimed she was abused by a German paedophile who resembled a police sketch of a man once suspected in Madeleine's disappearance.

She said her grandmother told her "something" about Madeleine's case, and that she found a photo of the man who abused her in her grandmother's house.

Speaking to RadarOnline, Dr Johansson claimed Julia told her school about the alleged sex attacks when she was seven. She was allegedly then sent on an eight-hour car ride with the attacker to another family member’s house.

Dr Johansson and Julia are now in the US where their findings have been passed to the police. The investigator said police there "think sex traffickers are likely the ones targeting her" with death threats.

    Family in Poland

Julia's family in Poland released a statement via Polish missing persons organisation Missing Years Ago denying her claims.

The family refused to take a DNA test and have since blocked Julia's phone number, Dr Johansson said.

Julia also apparently overheard her mum admit to "taking her".

Dr Johansson told The Sun: "What we found after some digging into this is that she overheard her mom saying something along the lines of 'I don't know why we have this girl, she has always been a troublemaker since we took her'.

"Since then she started to question what was going on and whether her parents were her true parents."
