A scared mum and daughter watched on in horror as police shot dead a little dog tried to a tree while arresting its owner for drug possession.

The barking pooch was tied to a small tree on the pavement and was heard yelping in pain as it was shot dead.

The grim scenes were filmed in Villa Fontana in the city of Tijuana, in the north-west Mexico and was later posted online were it went viral.

It shows a scared mum and young daughter in their car as an officer drawing his gun and appears to point it at the barking dog.
