Police search for hero who saved toddlers, 1 & 2, from drowning in river Thames after pram rolled into water
TWO toddlers were heroically saved from drowning as their buggy rolled into the river Thames.
And cops are searching for the hero who jumped in to save the tots, aged one and two, to come forward.
Their grandmother jumped into the water herself when the buggy rolled into the water but she was unable to get it back to the surface.
The boys were plunged under the water in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, as their grandmother screamed for help.
Police say a man dramatically jumped in to lift the buggy out of the water while another man, named Paul, also ran over to pull the children up the steep river bank and out to safety.
Paul, who the family have already thanked for his life-saving actions on Sunday, July 18, quickly found blankets to keep the children warm.
But the family are still searching for the other hero, who first helped with the rescue.
Surrey Police say the "near tragic incident" by the The Causeway happened when the buggy's brake was "completely by accident" not applied properly while on a family walk.
Officers attended alongside paramedics who took both children to hospital to be checked over and they are now home and in good health, police says.
'NEAT TRAGIC ACCIDENT'
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "On Sunday morning we attended a near tragic incident at the river in Staines-upon-Thames near Halfords on The Causeway, which was prevented by two quick thinking members of the public who came to the rescue.
"A woman had taken her two grandsons, aged one and two, for a walk to the River Thames.
"They were strapped into the buggy and whilst at the riverbank, completely by accident, the buggy started to roll as the brake was not properly applied. The buggy fell into the river, submerging both boys.
"Immediately, the woman jumped into the water shouting for help and tried to bring the buggy to the surface, but she struggled due to the depth of the water and steep bank.
"Multiple emergency service calls were made, and a man nearby leapt into action, entering the water to help the woman with the buggy.
"Shortly after a second man who’d heard the shouts, Paul, ran to the scene and helped pull the buggy up the riverbank, getting the two children out of the water.
"Paul then quickly found blankets to keep the children warm and dry before we arrived.
"Both children were taken to hospital but are now back home and in good health.
"The family are so grateful to both men for their speedy reactions and heroic efforts.
"The family have been in touch with Paul but would also like to thank the first man who leapt into the water; if you are the person who helped, please get in touch by dropping us a private message and quoting ref 45210076472."
