A police officer had his leg crushed by a car driven by a gang trying to flee the scene of an attempted burglary.

The Greater Manchester Police officer’s leg got struck by the door of a black Volkswagen Golf as it sped towards him in Davyhulme, Trafford (scene pictured) on September 16.

He and his colleagues had got out of their patrol car to speak to the occupants of the vehicle after they saw it acting suspiciously at around 1am. His leg was seriously injured after the Golf sped off and struck it.

He is recovering at home and expected to be off work for several months, his bosses at GMP said.

Police are appealing for potential witnesses, and said the Golf had false plates on and would have sustained ‘significant damage’ in the incident.

It comes after PC Christopher Burnham, of West Midlands Police, was mown down in a hit-and-run in Coventry on Wednesday.

Two police officers were also hit and injured by a car in Littlehampton, East Sussex, on Monday.
