King Maha Vajiralongkorn has reportedly made history and promoted his mistress to be Thailand's second Queen – before his 'missing' wife reappeared.

The 68-year-old is rumoured to have crowned his royal consort and lover Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi on her 36th birthday.

It comes weeks after more than 1,000 “very explicit” images of her were leaked online.

The pair were pictured wearing matching baby blue coats at a Buddhist ceremony where they released fish and birds at a pier in Bangkok.

And it got tongues wagging over the whereabouts of the king's wife, Queen Suthida, 42, who had not been seen in person since December 28.

Sineenat had also taken up some of the Queen's public roles and assignments leading to further speculation.

However, last week former flight attendant Suthida reemerged for the first time in two months and was pictured at a Chinese New Year event with her husband, who she married in 2019.

But former Thai diplomat Pavin Chachavalpongpun believes "Sineenat has got a hold of the King's heart."

“It is evident that she is his favourite consort," he told South China Morning Post.

Sineenat's new rumoured role comes weeks after the nudes scandal.

The 1,443 photos were taken between 2012 and 2014 and included revealing shots of Sineenat – nicknamed Koi – topless and in skimpy nightwear.

It also comes months after she disappeared from view when she was stripped of her titles for being "disloyal" and amid "rivalry" with the king's wife, Queen Suthida.

The Thai palace claimed she was punished for trying to elevate herself to "the same state as the queen".

But in a royal u-turn on August 28, Sineenat had all her titles, honours and position of royal consort reinstated.

There has however been no official confirmation yet of Sineenat's apparent new role as Queen.

Information about the Thai monarchy is heavily sanitised by a law, which punishes criticism of the royal family with up to 15 years in prison.

Meanwhile Suthida is the fourth wife of King Vajiralongkorn, who is also known as Rama X and estimated to be worth between £24-£32bn.

His previous three wives were either forced into exile or publicly humiliated.

The king married his first wife, Princess Soamsawali Kitiyakara, in 1977 and the couple welcomed their daughter, Princess Bajrakitiyabha.

But this was not a happy union and Vajiralongkorn embarked on an affair with actress Yuvadhida Polpraserth, with whom he had five children.

Despite repeated requests, Princess Soamsawali refused to divorce her husband until he finally got his wish in 1993, claiming the fault of the marriage's failure lay squarely at his wife's door.

Even so, his first wife and their daughter continue to play a major part in royal events.

Vajiralongkorn, still a prince, then married the woman he had been having an affair with for more than 15 years – but their wedding was not blessed by the queen, his mother.

Just two years after they tied the knot Yuvadhida moved to Britain with all of the couple's children – and the prince did not react well.

Furious, Vajiralongkorn put posters up all around the palace, accusing his wife of adultery and eventually abducted his daughter and brought her back to Thailand to live with him.

She was later elevated to the rank of princess, but his wife and their sons were stripped of their royal titles and they all now live in the US.

His third wife was Srirasmi Suwadee, who had worked for the prince since 1992. The marriage was kept from the public for four years, and revealed disclosed in 2005.

Srirasmi gave birth to the couple's son, Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, in the same year and was made a princess by her husband, who vowed his wild days were behind him.

But nine years later Vajiralongkorn demanded his wife's family be stripped of their royal titles amid allegations of corruption among her relatives.

His wife relinquished her royal titles soon afterwards and agreed to a divorce after 13 years of marriage when she was awarded a £4.4million settlement.
